We are part of the Faculty of Arts at Perth College. Based at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands in the "Fair City" of Perth, we provide education and training to degree level in a vast range of subjects.

The music staff at Perth are hugely experienced practising professional musicians and audio engineers - we feel that it is essential to remain in touch with the music business in order to ensure that our courses and services remain relevant and effective.

Music staff have worked in TV, Radio, and Theatres, recorded dozens of albums, and worked with stars including: Hot Chocolate; Ben E. King; Oscar Peterson; Mickey Rooney; James Galway; Buck's Fizz; Marti Webb; Stephanie Lawrence and many others.

Perth College started Britain's first full-time course in Rock Music in 1985, and has developed into a major force in modern music education, with well over 200 full-time students, two professional-standard recording studios and a purpose-built suite of rehearsal studios and specialist teaching facilities.

Students have gone on to work all over the world, some achieving fame in bands such as Belle & Sebastian, Nazareth, Annie Christian,The Humpff Family and Iron Horse, and some pursuing lucrative careers in countries as far afield as Japan, Dubai, Malta and Canada.

Audio engineering students can spend a total of three years at Perth, progressing from Foundation studies to HND level, gaining experience of Analogue and Digital recording techniques, and Live PA work. Audio staff are experienced professionals with proven track records in the industry, committed to developing the new generation of audio professionals.

In 1988, Scotland's first modern music performance degree commenced, giving students the opportunity to develop their performance skills in a more individual direction while developing skills in research, production, instrumental instruction and arranging. Music graduates are sought after by non-musical employers for their high levels of transferable skills, such as communication skills, conceptual thinking, social skills and situational sensitivity. These attributes are particularly emphasized in all UHIP degree courses.

In the near future work will commence on a Traditional Music degree, in conjunction with the University of the Highlands and Islands project.

The new Music and Media centre will create the finest Music and Audio Education facility in Britain, with three Eastlake-designed studios and a studio theatre with a full artistic programme, video and audio recording and broadcasting facilities.
